Private Residence -The Lodge at Glendorn

DLA+ was commissioned to design a family retreat located on the grounds of the luxury nature resort - the Lodge at Glendorn. The 3,600 SF home’s program provides 4 bedrooms with private baths, kitchen, living, dining, and private den. The owners desired adequate entertainment space, balanced by a feeling of “small scale” comfort. This inspired the concept of a playful array of volumes and spaces conceived to emulate a grouping of cottages in a forest setting. An arrival court flows into the open plan of the living and dining spaces, designed on a “see-through” principle to allow views to the surrounding landscape. These interior spaces spill out onto a large flagstone terrace equipped with an outdoor kitchen. The common areas and bedrooms each have a distinctive fireplace. Natural materials such as local stone, stained woods, copper and slate are used throughout with select exterior materials also brought into the interior. The home’s orientation and dynamic layout engage the scenic countryside, and yield unique vistas to nearby natural features.
