UPMC West Medical Center

Principals and staff at DLA+ worked on the UPMC West ambulatory care and outpatient surgery center while at another firm. The facilities provides space for OBGYN, primary care, radiology services, pediatric care and physical therapy. The building is a modern reinterpretation of classic design utilizing buff brick, stone, aluminum and glass. The “L” shaped plan of the building spans over a creek and focuses views to a grove of trees from patient circulation and waiting areas. The building is organized around a central rotunda and stair that connect to perimeter corridors to make it easy for patients to navigate the building. The ambulatory care components are in the long wing. The surgery center is in the short wing. The main parking lots lead visitors to a building entry court which directly leads to the central rotunda. Patient drop off and pick up for the surgery center is provided for by a dedicated drop off protected by a canopy.
