Project Challenges and Outcomes

Challenges

The owner asked the DLA+ design team to create a residence with a contemporary plan in authentic shingle style architecture on a one-acre lot which had an existing house.  Storm water management design was an important aspect of the design due to issues with the site’s existing topography and continuous run off to the neighbor’s property.

Outcomes

After the existing house was demolished, the team solved the storm water management problems through the design of underground retention facilities and surface rain gardens.  Craftmanship was a key to the construction process as the home has numerous intricately detailed areas including the foyer, kitchen, great room and the custom built 568 bottle capacity wine cellar.  The home’s game and exercise rooms are in the finished walk-out basement.  The resulting home features dynamic interior and exterior spaces based on contemporary interpretations of the shingle style architectural vernacular.
