Project Challenges and Outcomes
Challenges
Design a new group seating area and bar that would be constructed in an existing open area off of the main concourse level of PNC Park in order to provide a new source of revenue for the Pirates
Outcomes
In order to accommodate the space, a new floor structure would need to be created in an existing open area which was spanned with beams. The result was the creation of a large bar that would service both the group seating area on one side and ticketholders on another. The field facing group area would include fixed seating for approximately 30-40 and tabletop seating. This provided ample space for functions and allowed the team to capitalize by adding additional group capacity. The ticketholder side of the bar provides vistas of downtown Pittsburgh’s skyline and rivers. The space was designed to allow the entire bar to be opened to fans when the area isn’t hosting group events. Since opening, the space has become extremely popular and is one of the first group areas in the ballpark to sell out every year providing a steady stream of revenue for the Pirates.
