Project Challenges and Outcomes
Challenges
The Buncher Company hired DLA+ to provide a master plan for their riverfront property in the Strip District area in the City of Pittsburgh. The property also included a former produce terminal building which was considered a landmark for many in the City.
Outcomes
As part of the master plan, DLA+ developed architectural concepts for nine future buildings that would be built in phases. Working with Buncher, the DLA+ master plan was inspired by the character and history of the Strip District and included residential spaces like townhomes and apartments, parking garages, hospitality and office space. Residential buildings parallel the river and large green terraces top first level parking decks. Those residential buildings include the proposed Riverfront Landing Apartments, a 5 story building containing 103 apartment units situated along the riverfront urban site. The design includes 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units in the 189,500 SF building, many with river view terraces, and a parking garage to accommodate approximately 160 vehicles. Common building amenities include ground level lounge and fitness rooms as well as a second level roof deck and garden.
