Penn State East Halls Final Phase Approved for Construction
East Halls is one of the largest residence hall construction projects undertaken by the university, with 14 renovated halls and 2 new residence halls in total. The project began in 2016 as an effort to update and improve the aging complex built in the 1960s.
Late last year, the Pennsylvania State University's Board of Trustees approved the sixth and final phase of the $450 million Penn State East Halls student housing complex on the University Park Campus. Phase 2C includes the $95 million renovation to Hastings, Snyder, and Stone halls. Construction will begin in May 2023 for all three buildings with completion anticipated in August 2024 prior to the fall semester. All three buildings are anticipated to receive LEED Gold certification.
Construction is currently underway on Phase 2B of the project, which was delayed due to COVID. Renovations to Curtin, Bigler, and Packer halls began in 2022 and completion is anticipated in August of this year prior to the fall semester. All three buildings are anticipated to receive LEED Gold certification.
